Never Admit Fault

One of the biggest things you can do is to never admit fault. Don't tell the other involved parties it's your fault. Don't tell the police, and don't tell any insurance company, especially the other person's insurance company. If you say that it's your fault, then you are assuming liability and you are going to end up with the risk of having to pay out a lot of money. Let the police and insurance investigators figure out who is at fault, and how much fault you may or may not have in the accident.

Try and take pictures of all the information if you can so that you know that you didn't transpose a number or misspell a name. Call the Police

Even if it is a small accident, you need to call the police. Some insurance agencies won't pay out if you didn't file a police report, and it can make it harder for you to sue someone for restitution. So, give them a call so that they will come out and document the accident.
